Though the word "Video Games" may practically lump all video and computer games into one, there are a lot of different kinds of games. Grandmothers in particular have each their own special kinds of video games that they enjoy and play the most.

Not everyone is the same (or views life in very much the same way), and Grandmothers are no exception to the rule. Keeping this in mind, video games are not all the same either and are generally divided into game genres, which the Grandmas go for and pick games from. Let's take a quick look at them.

Grandmas usually love stories, as to why one would usually catch them watching soap operas and movies on TV or online. Reading or watching a story unfold does keep the mind busy, as well as an immersive thrill in watching the story unfold.

One of the most common games that Grandmas enjoy to playing. The "Puzzle Game" genre has always been the foremost go-to that doesn't require a lot of complicated setup steps to get the game up and ready to play. Grandmas dive right into it and spend hours observing with their computing devices, figuring out which piece belongs to where or looking for the piece needed for this or that.

Matching games are also included in the genre, although they may provide a scene like in an adventure game, the focus is on matching objects found in the scene. Others can have an arcade like feel to their gameplay, although matching is still the name of the game. A very good way to stimulate logic and pattern recognition, not just for seniors but for everyone.

From the simplest digital jigsaw puzzle game, match this and that, to the more elaborate Tetris, these games provide the needed health exercises and stimuli to keep Grandma's mind and senses active in the years to come, and a great way to enjoy and benefit from.

Hidden Object Hunting

Also considered a sub-genre hybrid of both Puzzle and adventure games. It's a Puzzle game since Grandmas has to look all around for the correct objects that the game needs to be found, and also an Adventure (with such awesomely beautiful backgrounds), as there usually is a story behind it, and finding all the hidden objects in a scene will lead to another, and another, until the end. One of the perfect games for grandma to engage in.

Traditional Digital Tabletop Games of Chance

If your Grandma spends a lot of time playing Card Solitaire on the dining or kitchen table, these are the kind of video games likely to bring her joy. The genre has enjoyed a lot of attention and popularity in the last few decades, whether Seniors and PWDs (persons with disabilities) played it with others online or on their own, a pastime session of gaming luck and chance is usually a satisfying way to spend one's free time with.

Whether Cards, Mahjong, Backgammon, Roulette, and the venerable pull and roll the reels game (the slot machine), Grandma's mind and senses are guaranteed to be kept busy with all this immersive action happening around. Many of these grandma games require strategy and deep thinking, so they can be included in the "Strategy Game" genre as well.

Role Playing Games

Believe it or not, some Grandmas are still joyfully playing RPG and RPG action adventure games. Whether they are leading a team of adventurers across barren wastelands and lush forests and fighting monsters like those in GuildWars or swinging through the Amazon and all parts of South America to find that special Aztec Tomb as Lara Croft with her two pistols akimbo, you can bet, Grands is enjoying her time.

Strategy and Simulation Games

If some Grandmas spend their time spelunking ancient tombs with double pistols strapped to their hips, some Grandmas will sit and stare at a chessboard and prove they're smarter than the AI in the game. Strategy and simulation games are usually intellectually challenging to Grandmas, as to why you will find the quintessential Grandma spending hours on end building her artistic branded empire in a biome of her own within the Minecraft collective.

Many games fall under Strategy and Simulations, and many of them are the kind of games that Grandmas would really love to spend their time with.

Lexicon Games

Almost everyone I know has played "Scrabble" at one time or another. A game of language, letters, and wordplay provides the kind of intellectual challenge that keeps the mind literally on its toes. If they've got somebody to play with, or a computing device that will offer a modicum of challenge, many Grandmas will go for a game they used to play when the world was younger and the flowers bloomed brighter.

In our world today, many Grandmas have moved up with the times and are quite tech-savvy, and the traditional activities they used to pursue and enjoy have evolved as well. Of course, Granny will always enjoy knitting, baking cookies and cake, cooking, watching soap operas, and maybe spanking the naughtiest of the little grandkids in the name of discipline and love, but with the popularity and availability of video games, Grandma has another wonderful way of making good use of her time.
